Since (academic) "summer" is now over, I thought it would be better for the passers-by for us to migrate the discussions about fall/winter/spring meetings to a discussion of its own.
I am interested to see what comes from us putting our calendars out there for comparison purposes, looking for common "holes" (and something for which we can find a convenient meeting location).
I've taken the liberty of putting up a Doodle poll for an October meeting time as an experiment. More than anything, I wanted to try out Doodle. I did October, not September, assuming that people want more advance notice. I'm happy without it, myself. I omitted Sundays because neither the Bangor Public Library nor PC/Mac Techs are generally open then, and I also omitted the evening of the 31st because that's Halloween. If I've forgotten anything, I can still edit the poll. It is at http://doodle.ch/iazipz65a7dy82yv, and that knowledge is all the authentication you need to participate.
On a personal note, I'll have quite a few mornings and afternoons open, but I don't know which ones yet because I only get my work schedule in two week chunks a week or so in advance. If there's still reason to, I'll update my poll answers when I have info.
My apologies to everyone for disappearing; I lost the hard drive in my primary machine and hadn't acquired sufficient disk space for a full backup so I'm rebuilding my life from scratch. I'm hoping if I don't think about it I won't ever realize if I lost anything valuable, and that will be much cheaper and less painful so condolences are not in order. Thank you, though.
The Doodle poll had three participants, including myself, and we all had the evening of Monday, October 22, 2007 open. If the two of you confirm that you haven't filled that, I'll see about double checking with PC/Mac Techs that it will be fine if we meet there unless Christian wants and has time to try for the library or someone else has a better idea.
Oops. A couple of things to report. Maria retired and so we have a new contact for scheduling (that is an fyi ... it doesn't sound like scheduling will be a problem in general).
BUT, 22 October is not available! Most of the other Monday nights until the end of the year are available at present, but not that one! 29 October is available at present, for example. Other free Monday nights:
I havew not heard anything from the Mitch's this year. Have you cleared this with them?
Mitch: are you there???
Also, if we have a meeting on Monday, can we move it up to 1730 or so? Just a couple of days ago, I got notice from a local town of a meeting I should attend at 1900. (sigh)
Yes, I have gotten in touch with Mitch; yes, I have keys if he's not there; yes, 1730 (5:30 P.M.) will be fine with me. I'll be there then and through 7:00 even if no one shows up, later if they do, and depending on when MadMarc can make it, maybe we'll have three people in the same place for a little while at least.
I'll try to make it down there as soon as I can after work.
I don't see that we have any information about the location (directions, parking, etc.) for the location of PC/Mac (a.k.a. "Mitch"), and the other interested parties are out of town. Is there a web page we can put back up with their information on it?
I have never attended a LUG meeting but I am very interested and will try to make it there on whatever night is decided upon. I'll keep checking back here for a date.
I won't be able to make tonights meeting, unfortunately. I haven't been following the discussion here and just recieved the notification today. Are future meetings all planned for monday nights? I need to know about a week in advance of meetings to plan things out with work...
